Driver caught doing 181kph on Kilkenny motorway banned from driving

A driver detected doing a speed of 181 kilometres per hour has been banned from driving for two years.

Simon Brennan, 10 Togher Way, Urlingford was convicted of the offence which took place on the M9 at Ballygearda on June 7, 2023.

The court heard that on the date in question gardaí were conducting a speed check and detected the defendant driving at 181kph in a 120 kph zone.

Sergeant Morgan O'Connor said that on the date in question the road was dry and that there was light traffic on the road.

The court heard that the defendant has 12 previous convictions.

Solicitor Conor Bass told the court that his client has no excuse for his actions on the date in question.

“He was not paying attention to the speedometer. Gneerally he would be a much safer driver,” said Mr Bass. Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted and imposed a two year ban,
