A prison sentence has been handed down to a man who failed to comply with the requirements of being on the sex offenders register.
The man was brought before Kilkenny District Court.

Evidence was given that the man was arrested on November 11 for breaching the requirements as he had not informed gardaí of his change of address.

A year before the man had registered an address on the other side of Ireland but, the court was told, he was found living in Kilkenny. He had not informed gardaí of this move.

In court the man’s solicitor said he had been living in Kilkenny for some time and he ‘understood the gardaí knew where he was.’ However the man pleaded guilty to the charge because he had not officially informed them of his move.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted the man and imposed a prison sentence of one month.
