Kilkenny courthouse
A young man who was spotted by plain clothes gardaí while in possession of cocaine has been handed down a jail sentence at Kilkenny District Court.
Timmy Jackman, Apt. 4 Jordan House, Castlecomer Road, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sergeant Morgan O’Connor told the court that on April 17, 2024, at 10pm, members of the garda drugs unit in plain clothes saw two people coming from behind a building on Maudlin Street. They appeared to be trying to hide.
One of the people was Mr Jackman. He was searched and found with a small amount of cocaine. He said it was for his own use.
Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client admitted he was experimenting with cocaine at the time. He had handed it over to the gardaí. Since then Mr Jackman has found employment. He is married with a young family and hasn’t gotten into difficulties since then.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Jackman and imposed a one month prison sentence.
Recognisance was fixed in the event of an appeal.
