Kilkenny man refused bail on theft, public order charges

Kilkenny District Court refused bail for a local man when he appeared on a number of charges.

Wayne McGrory, Good Shepherd Centre, Kilkenny, is charged with theft, a public order offence and interfering with a vehicle.

He is also charged with assault causing harm and attempting to rob, on a separate occasion.

Gardaí objected to Mr McGrory being granted bail on some charges.

Sergeant Morgan O’Connor told the court that evidence will be given in relation to the assault charge that the injured party was walking down John Street, on January 23, 2023, when Mr McGrory approached him and asked for his wallet.

The injured party refused and he was punched in the eye. He had to seek medical attention.
There was no objection to bail on this charge.

The objection was to the charges of theft, public order and interfering with a vehicle, from April 8, 2025.
Judge Geraldine Carthy, having listened to detailed garda objections, remanded Mr McGrory in custody for a week.
