An Garda Síochána in Kilkenny have issued a warning about a threatening email scam currently circulating locally.
The email, written in intimidating language, claims to have compromising material on recipients and demands payment in cryptocurrency to prevent its release.

The scam message alleges that spyware known as Pegasus has been installed on the recipient’s devices, allowing the sender to access private files, emails and call records.
The sender threatens to distribute so-called compromising videos to the victim’s contacts via social media and email unless a payment is made within 48 hours.

An Garda Síochána described the email as “nasty, threatening and scary” and urged the public not to engage with the sender under any circumstances.
People are advised to report such scams and to be vigilant about online security.

Anyone who has received this email or fallen victim to similar scams is encouraged to contact their local garda station.
