Kilkenny alcohol, tobacco worth €18,000 seized in Revenue and Garda raids

More than 398 litres of alcohol and tobacco products worth almost €13,000 have been seized in raids in Kilkenny, as well as in Rosslare Europort, Dublin and locations in the Midlands.


Including drugs and counterfeit items, the total value of all the items seized by Revenue officers is €1,075,000.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity and the alcohol and tobacco seized was valued at €18,860 and represented a loss of €11,450 to Exchequer.

The alcohol consisted of wine, beer and spirits. The cigarettes were branded Neo Classic, Manchester, Rothmans, Marlboro Gold, and Mayfair. The tobacco was branded Golden Virginia, Amber Leaf, HEETS, Sauvage, Shisha, Flandriaand Chaima Here.

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and also included the following:

  • 42.96kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €860,260,
  • Various other illicit drugs with an estimated value of almost €4,800,
  • 345 counterfeit items with an estimated value of over €191,200.

Included in the herbal cannabis is 37.16 kg of herbal cannabis seized in Dublin Airport on Sunday, 20/07/2025. The cannabis has an estimated value of approximately €743,200. The cannabis was discovered concealed in vacuum packed packages within the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked a flight originating from Thailand.   A male in his 40s was subsequently arrested by An Garda Síochána in relation to the seizure and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a Dublin Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing.

The other herbal cannabis and illicit drugs were discovered, with the assistance of detector dog Enzo, whilst Revenue officers were examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands, and at Rosslare Europort. The parcels originated from the USA, Thailand, Italy, Canada and the UK, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
