Kilkenny man fined for breaking law on e-scooter

A man with “a long list of previous” convictions has been fined for breaching the Road Traffic Act while using an e-scooter.
Eoin Kirwan, 12 Steeple Court, New Building Lane, Kilkenny, entered a guilty plea to the charge contrary to Section 11 (5) of the Road Traffic Act, through his solicitor, Chris Hogan.


On Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 12.30pm, on High Street, Kilkenny, gardaí observed a man wearing all-black and travelling on an e-scooter with a passenger. E-scooters are for the use of one person only.

When stopped there was some interaction with gardaí and Mr Kirwan was described as “unhappy.” He told gardaí at the scene he would go to court.


The court was told Mr Kirwan had a “long list of previous” convictions.
Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
Judge Geraldine Carthy imposed a fine of €200.
