Kilkenny father fined for bringing child to school on e-scooter

Taking a passenger on an e-scooter has resulted in a court fine for a local man.

John Carthy, Apt. 4 Jordan House, Castlecomer Road, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Garda Aisling Morrissey told the court that at about 8.45am on November 4, 2024, she observed a man on an e-scooter on the Castlecomer Road at Newpark Lower. He had a passenger.

When she stopped him and told him what he was doing was an offence, Mr Carthy told the garda he was bringing a child to school. A fixed charge penalty was issued but not paid.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said Mr Carthy usually doesn’t get into trouble and he is getting on with his life.
He was convicted and a fine of €200 imposed.
