A man has been fined for being in illegal possession of drugs, just after he was given a suspended prison sentence.

Lee Ronan, 2A New Building Lane, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the charge through his solicitor.

Sergeant Morgan O’Connor told the court that on November 13, 2024, gardaí searched Mr Ronan’s home on foot of a bench warrant.

A quantity of illegal drugs was found in a bedroom. Mr Ronan took responsibility for the drugs and said they were for his own personal use. There were 20 previous convictions recorded against Mr Ronan, the court was told.

The court was informed that the offence occurred less than a week after Mr Ronan had been subjected to a suspended sentence on a separate matter.

This offence breached the terms of the suspension so was a ‘triggering offence’ - triggering the activation of the suspended sentence.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client is doing well at the moment. Mr Ronan is in full time employment and has a new child with his partner.

Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Ronan on the possession charge and imposed a fine of €200.
The ‘triggering’ matter was adjourned to another court date.
