Gardaí in Kilkenny have seized a quantity of fireworks and are appealing to the public to assist them in clamping down on this illegal activity.

Several hundred euros of illegal fireworks were seized in the Piltown area in the run up to Hallowe’en. A garda investigation is ongoing and a prosecution is expected in relation to the incident.

Meanwhile gardaí are appealing to the public for assistance in trying to tackle the illegal use of fireworks locally.

“They are illegal and dangerous and are disturbing people and terrifying animals. They are a serious danger to both people and property.

“We are asking people to report the use of fireworks to gardaí and we are also appealing to people to report the sale and supply of fireworks to us,” a garda spokesperson said.

“We have patrols at the moment trying to clamp down on this illegal activity. Parents need to be vigilant and if they are aware that there are young people in possession of fireworks they should report it to the gardaí.”
