A sentencing hearing in the fraud case against Kilkenny hurling legend DJ Carey is set to take place at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today.

Mr Carey pleaded guilty to 10 counts of fraud, including falsely claiming to have cancer to obtain money from people, at a court sitting last July, on the day his trial was due to begin.

About 28 witnesses had been expected to give evidence for the prosecution at trial, which was originally set down for four weeks.

The sentencing hearing will now take place on Wednesday, October 29, and is expected to take 90 minutes. The 10 counts Carey pleaded guilty to involved a total of 13 complainants.
