A recent garda investigation involving some bright detective work and a visit to an unsuspecting household has yielded a positive result.
Whilst patrolling in Kilkenny late last month, gardaí attached to the Roads Policing Unit were alerted to a 'ping' from their Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR).

The ANPR pinged for a 'suspected uninsured vehicle registration' but, according to a garda spokesperson, "our lads failed to turn around quick enough due to heavy traffic and inclement weather."
Gardaí then subsequently checked up the home address and discovered that the vehicle had been sold the day previously but that the vendors had retained details that would help in their investigation.
The details retained by the vendors resulted in "a visit and a chat with Callan colleagues who knew their patch and could assist."

Acoording to the garda spokesperson, "a clue lead the traffic lads on a CCTV trawl which found a multiple times disqualified driver sought for a string of thefts from vehicles in Callan."
Callan gardaí subsequently "arrested the suspect for these crimes, charged with all and also for driving disqualified and uninsured."
