Local man ‘bringing miniature pony for a wash in the river’ fined by Kilkenny Court

Bringing a miniature pony for a wash in the river has resulted in a court fine for one Kilkenny man.

Edward Carthy, 27 Gaol Road, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to an offence contrary to Section 47 (1) of the Control of Horses Act 1996.

The district court heard that on April 7, 2025, gardaí stopped Mr Carthy driving a sulky on Bateman Quay, a local exclusion zone.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client accepted he shouldn’t have been driving the sulky in the area. He was bringing a miniature pony ‘down for a wash in the river,’ the solicitor explained.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Carthy and imposed a fine of €250.
