Criminals impersonating gardaí are targeting homes in Kilkenny and have gained access to a number of properties in recent days.
Gardaí are appealing for people to be vigilant following an incident where a man impersonating a member of An Garda Síochána gained access to a house and stole a sum of cash. The incident occurred in Ballyragget on Friday just after 9am.
A second incident occurred at a house in Lower Conahy shortly before 9am on Friday, again two men claiming to be gardaí gained entry to a house. One of the men produced a badge which appeared to be Garda ID. One of the men searched in
drawers, but they left empty handed.
They were travelling in a small silver/grey Toyota Yaris type car.
Gardaí are urging to make sure to verify the idea of anyone calling to your home purporting to be a garda.
"If anyone identifying themselves as a garda calls to your home, before allowing them access, ask for their full name and rank and take note of this. Ask to see their garda id. All gardaí have an official ID badge which contains their name and photo, check that these match. You can also contact your local garda station who can confirm the identity of the
caller," said a garda spokesperson.
