The driver of the uninsured Opel failed to stop for members of the local Roads Policing Unit

Gardaí have publicly condemned the actions of a local driver suspected of drink driving last weekend.

The driver of the uninsured Opel failed to stop for members of the local Roads Policing Unit (RPU) and was subsequently apprehended.

The car was seized under Section 109a Road Traffic Act.

“Maybe in it's future life it will be recycled into something used less dangerously,” a garda spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, a vehicle has been seized by An Garda Síochana for the second time in four months after the same driver was stopped at the same location in Kilkenny by the same garda.

According to a Facebook post by gardaí, the vehicle was seized again after the driver was identified by a garda who recognised it from the previous incident. The driver had insured the vehicle under another person's name, meaning it did not trigger the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system.

However, the garda on duty recognised the vehicle and it was seized once again.

“The driver can attempt to explain why he believes that a Driving Licence and Insurance are optional,” the garda post said.

“They say sequels are overrated,” it added.
