KILKENNY

The late Seamus Rafter (RIP)

There is a sense of shock in Kilkenny City following the sudden death Seamus Rafter, College Square, Kilkenny City and the Sceilp Inn, Kilkenny.

He passed away on June 2 unexpectedly, at St Vincent's Hospital.

A passionate supporter of hurling at all age levels and knowledgeable about sport, he was a welcoming and fun presence in the Sceilp over many years. He always had a joke and a kind word, and took the time to chat to everyone.

Seamus was predeceased by his parents Jim and Eileen, and the beloved husband of Anastatia and much loved father of Ella Marie, James, Liam and Shaun. Seamus will be greatly missed by his heartbroken family, brothers Thomas and Maurice, sisters Collette, Linda and Lorraine, granddaughter Emelyn Mae Rafter, aunts Marie and Nellie, Ella's partner Hannah, James' partner Leah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Due to the untimely death of Seamus, and as mark of respect to the Rafter family, the Billy Walton blitz was called off on Saturday, June 3.

"As a club we extend our condolences to the Rafter family," said a message from James Stephens GAA.

"Seamus and Anastatia are long time supporters of James Stephens club. We extend our sympathy to Anastatia, EllaMarie, James, Liam, and Shaun."

Reposing at his home on Thursday, June 8 from 2pm concluding with Rosary and Vigil Prayers at 7pm. House is private at all other times please. Requiem Mass on Friday at 11am in St. Patrick's Church, Kilkenny. Interment afterwards in St Lachtain's Cemetery, Freshford.
