New SEAI data has revealed there were 684 solar panel installations carried out on Co. Kilkenny homes in 2024
A report by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has shown that there was an increase of almost 22% in the installation of solar panels in County Kilkenny in 2024. There were 684 solar PV installations carried out in Kilkenny last year with grant support, 133 more than reported in 2023.
In January 2024, the maximum SEAI grant for solar panels was reduced by €300 to €2,100, leading to the increase in installations. This January, the grant was once again reduced by €300 and now stands at €1,800.
Renewable energy expert Briain Kelly of EnergyEfficiency.ie said that it is extremely promising to see that installations increased across the board last year despite the grant being reduced. “Solar panels have many benefits for households – from saving them thousands of euros in energy bills each year and cutting their carbon footprint, to increasing the value of the home.”
Mr. Kelly also touched upon how solar energy use in Ireland is overlooked due to our changeable climate. "A common misconception that persists is that solar panels don’t work unless it’s a clear, sunny day. This simply isn’t the case – while direct sunshine does generate more free electricity, solar panels also create a great deal of electricity even on cloudier days."
On a national level, 29,151 homes in Ireland installed solar panels in 2024 with grant support, an increase of 6,441 since 2023.
