Stevie on the Toy Show with Peter O’Mahony and Bundee Aki
Last Friday’s Late Late Toy Show attracted a viewing audience of 1.7 million, and a number of talented youngsters represented Kilkenny with pride as the entire nation watched on.
In one of the most moving moments from the show, Stevie from Kilkenny was left awestruck when Irish rugby heroes Peter O’Mahony and Bundee Aki stood shoulder to shoulder with him as he belted out Ireland’s Call.
“It’s the best day of my life,” he told host Patrick Kielty.
Bundee then presented Stevie with a signed Irish rugby jersey before Kielty added to the shock by telling the youngster that the IRFU have gifted the entire family tickets for next year’s clash with Italy in the Six Nations.
Later in the show, Enya Cox, a talented local young singer, had the biggest performance of her life to date, in a stellar performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Vampire’.
Enya, a former contestant in the Kilkenny People’s ‘Kilkenny’s Next Superstar’, has been singing for as long as she can remember.
“I jumped at the opportunity,” she recently told the Kilkenny People.
The ‘Comer girl only narrowly missed out on a Toy Show appearance back in 2019 and despite the disappointment, Enya said that the experience gave her confidence.
Her proud mother, Roisin Cox, stated she was ‘bursting with pride’ when she found out that this year was to be her year - and Enya absolutely nailed every note!
Also nailing every note was another young female vocalist from Kilkenny, Sophie Brennan.
Alize’s School of Singing, where Sophie fine tunes her skills, are very proud of her.
In a post before the show aired, they stated: “Our superstar Sophie Brennan will perform on The Late Late Toy Show. We are so so excited for Sophie and her family! And we are incredibly proud of you!”
Just when we thought Kilkenny’s Late Late Toy Show audience couldn't get any more excited, one of the best moments of the night involved a little girl whose mammy Martina Griffin is a teacher in Callan.
Her little girl, also named Sophie, told the Late Late Toy Show that it was her one and only dream to take part but that didn’t work out this year because she is currently receiving treatment for leukaemia.
But there was a big surprise for Sophie when a camera crew surprised the family, bundled them on a bus straight to RTÉ and Sophie’s dream came true - appearing as a tester on the Toy Show!
