Extras from Kilkenny wanted for historical television epic filming in Leinster

Kilkenny people with an interest in acting, history, or the world of television are being encouraged to apply for extras roles in Bluetooth, a major new historical TV series set to film in Wicklow and Dublin this summer.

Producers are appealing directly to people across Kilkenny who might like to get involved in what is being billed as an epic swords and shields saga. The production team says they are “scouring the island of Ireland high and low” to find thousands of extras for the show, which begins filming in July and will continue until late November 2025.

Open casting days will take place on Monday, June 30 at the Parkview Hotel, Main Street, Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow, between 10am and 5pm, and on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4 at The Depot at The Complex, 12 Mary’s Abbey, Smithfield, Dublin 7, also from 10am to 5pm. No appointment is necessary, and the process will take around 20 minutes.

The production is keen to hear from adults aged 16 and over from all backgrounds. No prior acting experience is required. The casting team is looking for a wide variety of appearances and skills, including people with experience in fishing, carpentry, farming, sword fighting, archery, sailing, music, singing, animal handling, blacksmithing, and more. Men willing to grow out hair and beards are particularly welcome, while women with naturally coloured hair of any length are also encouraged to apply. Those with visible tattoos are asked to consider covering them or ensure they are not visible for filming purposes.

Applicants must be full-time residents of Ireland and hold a working visa and PPS number. The production notes that flexibility and availability at short notice will be important, as filming schedules can change quickly. Extras will be hired on a casual, temporary basis, and rates of pay will be discussed with successful applicants.

Anyone interested should arrive prepared with their measurements, including height, chest, dress and shoe sizes, as this information will be recorded during the application process. While there is no need to bring a CV or headshots, these will be accepted if provided.

The team behind Bluetooth describes the opportunity as a chance not just to earn some extra income but to meet new people, see some of the country’s most beautiful scenery, and experience the behind-the-scenes process of a major television production.
