Local farmers are the ‘cream of the crop’ as a county Kilkenny farmer has been named as a finalist in this year’s National Dairy Awards.
The awards recognise the quality and talents of the county’s dairy farmers.
The Kilkenny finalist for Herdwatch Tech Innovator Dairy Farmer of the Year is Robbie Walsh, from Danesfort.
Robbie Walsh is one of four finalists in the Herdwatch Tech Innovator Dairy Farmer of the Year category in the National Dairy Awards.
The most substantial technological innovation on the , according to Robbie, are two Lely milking robots.
The robots have increased productivity on the farm with the milk yield of the cows increasing by around 15%.
The dairy sector is the jewel of the Irish agricultural industry but it is facing many challenges.
The National Dairy Awards recognise and celebrate those who have embraced these challenges and are driving the sector on to a brighter and sustainable future.
The inaugural National Dairy Awards gala evening presentations will take place in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise on Thursday June 15.
