Ministers Pippa Hackett, Martin Heydon, Charlie McConalogue with Professor Frank O’Mara, Teagasc Director and Paddy Smith, Teagasc horticulture, on the stand at Bloom in the Phoenix Park.
Horticulture, education, forestry, crops and countryside management are all featured on the Teagasc stand at Bloom, over the bank holiday weekend.
Teagasc joined with Bord Bia and the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine at Bloom in the Phoenix Park, to create an informative and educational feature in the food village at the event.
Among the Teagasc endeavours highlighted included the new apprenticeships in horticulture, which are being delivered by the Teagasc College of Horticulture at the National Botanic Gardens and at Kildalton College in Piltown, Kilkenny.
Among the visitors to the stand were Ministers Charlie McConalogue, Pippa Hackett and Martin Heydon.
They viewed the forestry driving simulators, used in the delivery of the education programme, and the vertical growing towers, which are used in research to reduce food waste.
The theme of the Bloom exhibition was “Horticulture is Life,” highlighting the importance of the horticulture industry in Ireland and the role it plays in securing national food supply in a sustainable way into the future.
