A series of IFA regional meetings, across the country, began this week.
These meeting s are a valuable opportunity for officers on the ground to get an update on current campaigns.
The first meeting, for the Ulster/ North Leinster area which stretches from Dublin to Donegal and takes in the midland counties of Longford and Westmeath, took place in Cavan, on Monday.
It was attended by IFA President Francie Gorman, IFA Director General Damian McDonald, Director of Policy Tadhg Buckley and a speaker from Bord Bia in relation to the review of the QA schemes.
A regional meeting for the South Leinster area will be held on Monday, October 7, in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Carlow.
On Monday, September 30, the Connacht meeting will take place in the Sligo Park Hotel, Sligo, and the Munster regional meeting will be held in the Springfort Hall, Mallow, on Monday, October 14.
All meetings start at 8pm.
The first meeting included a presentation from IFA’s Director of Policy Tadhg Buckley on the cost of doing business and farm incomes.
Bord Bia had a representative at the meeting in relation to plans to revise the current Quality Assurance Schemes that operate across all commodities. IFA Ulster/ North Leinster regional chair Frank Brady said this is a very important issue for farmers.
