Kilkenny TD has good news for local farmers on fertiliser scheme

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Carlow-Kilkenny TD Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere has said confirmed farmers will receive Fertiliser Scheme funding into their bank accounts before the end of the year.
Deputy Cleere was told farmers will not have any headaches trying to access the financial support after he raised the plight farmers in the Dáil.
Deputy Cleere said: “It has been a very, very challenging number of months for the agricultural sector, overall but the tillage sector, in particular, with the summer we've had.
“I welcome the National Fertiliser Scheme that was announced in the Budget. It's a €46.1 million pot in total, and €31million of that is coming from the Irish government. But you might just outline for this house what exactly that might look like for Irish farmers in terms of actual money back in their pockets, how quickly we can get the scheme set up?”
In response, Minister Martin Heydon said he was finalising the details of how the scheme will operate. “I plan to have it really simple, really quick, no administrative burden on farmers to get money into their pockets before the end of this year based on fertiliser usage in last year’s fertiliser database,” he said.
