MARK your calendars, limber up and get your skates on, because on December 3, by popular demand, Kilkenny On Ice is back, bigger and better than ever.
This year it will be completely indoors at the Hub inside Cillin hill on the Dublin Road making it even cooler than last year.
It will run until January 22 and new additions this year include Bungee Trampolines, Rodeo Reindeers, Leinster’s first ever Ice Slide and Peppa and Georges very special toddlers play area.
The Ice Rink is 600 sq metres in size, among the largest in Ireland, and the 30 metre long Ice Slide is also made with real ice, so if you don’t want to skate you can still enjoy the ice. The ice rink is also wheelchair friendly with the addition of special attachments that will allow the wheelchair to “skate on the ice”.
There’s also going to be an Ice Cafe with hot chocolate, teas, a full coffee menu, hot soup’s and sandwiches which will be freshly made each day with a seating area where parents can relax while keeping an eye on their children.
Safety is paramount at Kilkenny On Ice and this year’s team of Ice Marshalls are all very experienced skaters from the “Kilkenny Storm” Ice Hockey Club who are happy to provide lessons anyone who might be interested. Helmets will be provided free of charge, with complimentary skate aids for younger skaters.
Kilkenny On Ice has some very special corporate packages including catering and group deals for schools, clubs and youth groups. The Kilkenny People is a media partnera with Kilkenny On Ice and further details, plus competitions will be announced over the coming weeks.
The organisers are very excited about the project and are delighted to be bringing a fun filled experience for young and old and over 30 jobs for to Kilkenny for the Christmas period.
