The Windgap Roinn D county schools hurling champions enjoying the moment in UPMC Nowlan Park
Windgap’s return to UMPC Nowlan Park on Monday evening attracted a great attendance for their Cumann na mBunscoileanna Roinn D county final with Tullaroan.
On a fine evening they saw a cracking game as Scoil san Nicolas over turned the league result to retain the county title.
In the game the side got a dream start when two very early goals proved crucial in giving the side a 2-5 to 1-4 half-time lead and after Tullaroan dominated the second half a 2-9 to 1-7 victory at the final whistle.
As in Croke Park the day before, goals all scored in the first half proved important in winning the game as senior county players, supporters, parents, grandparents and commentators from the big stage saw Tadhg Kennedy and AJ Power grab the Scoil san Nicolas goals and Finn Walsh respond for the wearers of the famed jersey with the Sash.
The game saw great individual and team skills, with tenacious blocking hooking and scores from both sides as the game and the excitement in the stand flowed from end to end.
After the final whistle team captain Tadhg Kennedy was presented with the County Cup by Cathaoirleach Niall Tennyson assisted by Dermot Dunphy, Dick O’Neill and their organising team.
