Kilkenny IHC: Power urges Carrickshock to 'stick together' ahead of relegation battle

Carrickshock and Conahy Shamrocks will contest the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Intermediate Hurling Relegation Final on the Kells Road on Saturday afternoon.

The teams finished in fifth and sixth in Group A of the league respectively with Carrickshock winning the corresponding fixture. However, both sides need a win today to secure their intermediate status.

Speaking to the Kilkenny People Sport Podcast ahead of the match, club stalwart Richie Power Snr said: "We know what's ahead of us," he commented, adding, "we are where we are, it's not where we wanted to be."

"Just look at it as another game, there's no point building it up as a do or die game. At the end of the day, I never look forward to these games, I played in three of them and I was Chairman for another one or two so I know exactly what it can bring to an area for a couple of weeks," Power said.

"It's about keeping the level of expectation down and hurling to the best of your ability. If we lose it tomorrow we have to pick up the pieces and stick together as a club and stick together as a team and if Conahy loses tomorrow my heart will go out to them too," he continued.
