The launch of the 2025 Kilkenny GAA Golf Classic took place at Kilkenny Golf Club in February, with a vast array of hurling stars in attendance.

Among them, multiple All-Ireland winners Richie Power Snr and Jnr, Tommy Walsh and Eddie Keher.

Also present on the day were officials from the Kilkenny County Board and Golf Club, senior inter-county manager, Derek Lyng and the organising committee of the event.

"We as a committee got involved last year to help and organise this golf classic," committee member, Richie Power snr told Kilkenny People Sport.

"We had a massive success last year and the one thing I'd like to really get out there is that this is about our underage hurlers in Kilkenny, we have to develop them and give them every opportunity to come and develop and have the facilities for that to happen," he added.

"You need finances to drive it on. The bar doesn't stay at the one level, it's rising all the time and if we want to stay up there at the top table, we have to work at the underage and we need the support of the Kilkenny people to make this golf classic a success.

"I can't stress this enough, it's about all our underage hurlers and to give them an opportunity to develop."

Power and his committee colleagues, which features Dan Cody and chairperson Eddie Brennan, were blown away by the level of support and generosity shown to the golf classic last year by the business community and general public and are hoping those same heights can be reached again later this year.

"I have to acknowledge the business community of Kilkenny last year. We did a lot of walking around Kilkenny City asking people to come onboard and support and we got a massive response. We were taken aback," two-time Liam MacCarthy Cup winner, Power commented.

"There is a huge, huge support out there for Kilkenny hurling and it's about tapping into it and asking people to come in and support it. It was a great success last year and hopefully we can build on it and drive it," the Carrickshock clubman continued.

The Golf Classic itself will be held on May 15 and 16 at Kilkenny Golf Club, promising two fantastic days of golf in support of Kilkenny GAA Na Cait Óga Academy.
