Kilkenny fell to defeat against Galway in round 2 of the Allianz Hurling League in UPMC Nowlan Park earlier this year.

While Keoghan, Cian Kenny and Peter McDonald kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Noresiders, points were being taken a lot more easier down the other end with Gavin Lee and Padraic Mannion excelling in defence and Tom Monaghan popping up with vital efforts from play.

With Keoghan scoring five points from play in the opening half, Kilkenny did get back to within four points at the interval but the comeback still didn't arrive instantly. The opposite was almost true in fact with a second Declan McLoughlin goal leaving Galway eight clear by the 47th minute (2-15 to 0-13).

It was from here that the Cats threw the shackles off a bit and with impact off the bench, they began to motor with 1-6 on the spin as three Eoin Cody frees and points from play by Keoghan and Cian Kenny left just two between them before Cody then rattled the net with an expertly taken goal.

Kilkenny looked to have all the momentum at this point but the energy it took to reach that point looked to leave it's mark as Jason Flynn knocked over three successive frees to leave Galway two clear before Conor Whelan then knocked over the insurance score as the visitors claimed a 2-19 to 1-19 victory.

Kilkenny now have a six day turnaround before they face near neighbours Wexford in the next round of games on Saturday evening.
