Lawlor pinpoints where Kilkenny may need to improve for All-Ireland Semi-Final

Huw Lawlor

Kilkenny full-back Huw Lawlor has admitted the Cats may need to manage games 'a little bit better' with an All-Ireland semi-final and potential final afoot, but is confident a four-week break will put them in good stead for a last four Croke Park showdown in July.

Key to the victory was an outstanding performance from Lawlor, who plucked ball after ball from the sky with his aerial ability without equal.

However, despite Kilkenny holding a strong position, the game came to life in the final quarter with the leaders kept scoreless for almost 10 minutes.

Lyng’s men would ultimately weather the Connacht storm, an experience Lawlor believes could make the panel stronger for bigger days ahead.

"Galway were going to have a purple patch at some stage and we were trying to limit that but I thought the boys worked hard throughout," he said.

"It’s something that’s happened to us before, we probably need to manage the game a little bit better but look we got the scores and the few interceptions we needed to get over the line."

"Four weeks now to try and get the bodies right and get loads of training in. It’s been a very busy seven/eight weeks so it’s a good chance and to try different lads."

Lawlor, who made his Kilkenny debut in 2019 now has six medals in the back pocket - with a sniff of an All-Ireland in the air, he’s loving the game as much as ever.

"It’s great to get another Leinster medal," Lawlor said after the match.

"Obviously, there was times we were under pressure but the forwards worked very hard as well and limited the ball that was coming in which is very good."
