Kilkenny GAA sign major new deal in big step forward for the county

Work has already begun on the new pitches in the Kilkenny school

Thomastown and Dicksboro to meet in Under 21 decider

Kilkenny GAA and St Kieran’s College have come together to sign an agreement for the development of a full-size Astroturf pitch and the redevelopment of a full-size playing pitch at the secondary school.

The existing pitch in the school is currently undersized, and the redevelopment involves altering the boundary with neighbouring properties to create the necessary space.

This expansion will also facilitate the development of an all-weather pitch at the rear of the college.

Both the full-size pitch and the all-weather facility will be significant additions to the sports infrastructure in Kilkenny City and will be used by both St Kieran’s College and Kilkenny GAA.

Works in the school began last week after the last game was played on the Fr Tommy Maher senior hurling pitch in what is set to be an exciting venture for both parties.

The decision which was agreed with Kilkenny County Council will see Kilkenny GAA get the benefit of a top class facility upon it’s completion.

It’s something that will be welcomed from a Kilkenny GAA point of view and continues the strong relationship between the Co Board and the school.

In addition to the Training Centre in Dunmore, UPMC Nowlan Park and the use of club facilities around the county, this is another valued asset for Kilkenny teams.
