Kilkenny SHL: Mackessy 'not getting carried away' despite unbeaten start

O'Loughlin Gaels favourite Fionan Mackessy has claimed the team are 'not getting carried away' yet despite making an unblemished start to life in Group A of the St Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling League.

Brian Hogan's side came out on top in Saturday's city derby against Dicksboro, with an early Luke Hogan goal all that separated the side's in a competitive UPMC Nowlan Park clash.

Both sides went into the contest without the services of some key players. O'Loughlin Gaels are still awaiting the return of Cian Loy and Mark Bergin, while Dicksboro are without a number of starters including, Harry Shine, Matty Kelleher and Tom Kenny.

"We're delighted we have three wins from three but we're not getting carried away, we have a pile of work to do," Mackessy said after the match.

"Luke's (Hogan) a deadly man for the goals so if we can keep feeding him and our full-forward line hopefully we can get a few more early ones (goals)," he commented.

The Ardfert man was also full of praise for his adopted club in Kilkenny. The former Poc Fáda champion, now into his second season with the Gaels, has settled in well with the city club, so much so the Kerry native is even sharing digs with some of his relatively new team-mates.

"I love it, I'm in a great house where it's hurling 24/7," Mackessy continued.

"I love it up here and Kilkenny, lovely county. I couldn't have come to a better club in O'Loughlins, they've taken me in with open arms. Every one of them is fair sound," he added.
