Special times for Danesfort as Kilkenny club are crowned Leinster champions

Danesfort were crowned AIB Leinster Intermediate Hurling champions for the first time in their history on Sunday, turning around a six point deficit at half-time to beat Ratoath (Meath) 2-15 to 0-12.

The win was particularly special for club stalwart and four-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny Paul Murphy, who lifted aloft the trophy named in honour of his late dad Tommy, who previously served as Chairperson of the Kilkenny County Board.

On a wet and windy day in Páirc Tailteann in Navan, a spirited second half showing from the winners blew the Meath senior kingpins away as they outscored their opponents 2-9 to 0-1 in the last 16 minutes of the contest.

Sam Hayes' 47th minute goal was the turning point of the match, while there was huge cheers when Richie Hogan, who was introduced as a substitute for the very first time this season, netted the game's second five minutes later (2-9 to 0-12 after 52 minutes).

Adrian Burke's team finished the match in style with further points from Robbie Walsh along with Richie and Paddy Hogan to seal the win in what was the final game at Páirc Tailteann in its current form with the Navan venue set to receive a makeover over the coming months.
