Danesfort GAA celebrated the official opening of their new state of the art clubhouse following a community wide event held on Saturday at the club grounds in Kilkenny.

The opening marked a significant moment for the parish, bringing to completion one of the most ambitious club development projects in Kilkenny.

President of the GAA, Jarlath Burns, performed the official opening and welcomed players, families and supporters as they explored the facilities for the first time. The new facilities were delivered through a long standing partnership between Danesfort GAA club and CluneTech.

The development features a modern clubhouse with two changing rooms, a fully equipped gym and multi-purpose activity room, a meeting room and office, a shop, referee’s room, accessible toilet with baby changing facilities, a kitchen and a newly resurfaced ball wall with a floodlit Astroturf pitch. The project also includes a floodlit 1.1 km tarmacadamed surface walking track, the refurbishment of the existing dressing rooms, adding an updated kitchen area with modern appliances, an accessible toilet and upgraded externally accessible toilets, greatly enhancing accessibility and year-round use for all members of the community.

“Today represents an important moment for Danesfort GAA and for the community it serves,” said Uachtarán CLG Jarlath Burns at the opening.

“The facilities unveiled here are testament to the ambition, commitment and collaboration that define our Association at its best. It is clear that this development will support participation and enjoyment for players of all ages well into the future.”

Catherine Cunniffe, Chairperson of Danesfort GAA, said the development marks a major step forward for the club and parish.

“The new facilities will enhance every aspect of our sporting and community life and reflects the dedication of the volunteers, coaches, members and our sponsor CluneTech, who have all worked tirelessly to make this possible,” she said. "The success of our teams, including the Leinster Intermediate Hurling Final win, shows the strength of the structures we are building together.”

Former Kilkenny hurler and development committee member Paul Murphy was also in attendance.

“These facilities provide a foundation that will benefit players at every level, from our youngest members to our senior teams,” he said. “The standard of what has been achieved here is something everyone involved can be very proud of.”
