LISTEN: Derek Lyng outlines what TJ Reid will bring as Kilkenny captain

Kilkenny senior hurling manager, Derek Lyng has hailed the longevity of star forward TJ Reid, claiming he will be an 'excellent' captain.

However, the Cats boss stressed his panel is full of 'leaders' ahead of the new inter-county season which begins at home to Offaly in the Allianz Hurling League on Sunday, January 25.

"Whether TJ was captain or not, he leads by example and how he carries himself is exemplary," Lyng told the Kilkenny People Sport Podcast in a wide ranging sit down interview. - AVAILABLE HERE

"The fact that he performs at such a high level at his age doesn't happen by chance but we're lucky, there's huge leaders in that dressing room, you don't have to be captain. It's TJ but it's also a number of players," he continued.

"You don't have to be in that dressing room long to be a leader, it's how you carry yourself and the attitude you bring to it all the time. I think we're fortunate that we have a very good group but TJ has captain will be excellent, he has that experience as well but we're very happy with the overall group that we have."
