'We'll improve on that' - Lyng gives his verdict on Kilkenny win over Offaly

Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng

Kilkenny senior hurling manager, Derek Lyng admitted he wasn't happy with his team's 'efficiency' in their 0-20 to 0-16 opening round Allianz League win over Offaly on Sunday but expects improvements as the season progresses.

The hosts had to battle hard for their four point win with Eoin Cody (0-10, 0-6f) to the fore leading his side to a four point victory. - MATCH SUMMARY HERE

However, the total of 14 wides, many of which were in the first half, is an aspect Lyng is determined to improve in the coming weeks.

"We probably would have been disappointed in the first 20 minutes with our efficiency and felt we should have had probably a few more scores on the board and we didn't, we weren't efficient," Lyng told the Kilkenny People Sport Podcast after the match.

"We left Offaly in it at times but credit to them, they grinded it out and stuck with it so just happy to get the win at the end," he added.

"Overall, I'm pleased. Look, we know that it's not going to be slick at the minute but over time we're going to need to improve on that," the Kilkenny manager admitted, stating, "I'm very happy with the effort and the attitude from all the players. We were disappointed with the efficiency and some of our turnovers but we'll improve on that."
