Tributes have been paid across the GAA community following the passing of former Kilkenny and Bennettsbridge hurler, Liam Cleere.
Mr Cleere was a key figure in a golden era for Bennettsbridge, winning ten KilkennySenior Hurling Championship titles with his native club.
At inter-county level, he represented Kilkenny with great distinction and was part of the county’s celebrated All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship-winning panel of 1957.
The decorated player won three Leinster Senior Hurling Championship medals (1957, 1958 and 1959), and his adaptability was a hallmark of his game, featuring not only as a goalkeeper but also as a forward in the Leinster Final victories in 1958 and 1959.

Mr Cleere also served as President of Bennettsbridge GAA.
"Kilkenny GAA extends its deepest sympathy to Liam’s wife Iris, his children Eamonn, Gerry, Mark, Fiona, Fintan and Jenny, brothers Larry and Seamie, sisters Carmel and Margaret, sons- and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends, and to everyone in Bennettsbridge GAA at this sad time."
Meanwhile, Dicksboro have also paid tribute to the multiple county championship winner who spent a brief time in Palmerstown.
"Although from Bennettsbridge, Liam played with Dicksboro and wore our colours when he won a Minor title with the club in 1952," they said.
"On behalf of everyone in Dicksboro, we extend our sincere sympathies to Liam’s family, friends, and all in Bennettsbridge GAA Club at this sad time."
