St.Kieran's Colleges trip to Nenagh the highlight on a busy Saturday of college action

Harry Shine will hope to lead St Kieran’s to the All-Ireland final

All roads will lead to Nenagh on Saturday afternoon (1pm- note time change) as St Kieran’s College look to qualify for the All-Ireland senior hurling colleges final on St Patrick’s Day.

Recent first time Harty Cup winners St Joseph’s Secondary School Tulla stand in the way of a Croke Park appearance for the Kilkenny school with GAA HQ playing host to both the Hogan Cup (football) and Croke Cup (hurling) finals as a replacement for the earlier date of the club finals.

St Kieran’s College have resurrected their season in fine style after falling to defeat against Dublin South Schools in the Leinster semi-final in January.

Brian Dowling’s team were offered a lifeline after that defeat and they have accounted for both Kilkenny CBS and Gort Community College since that setback.

When it comes to colleges hurling in Clare, one automatically thinks of St Flannan’s in Ennis but sitting in their shadow, Tulla have experienced a fairytale season so far and they would love nothing more than to get one over Kieran’s.

St Kieran’s have won the All-Ireland title on 23 different occasions including back to back crowns in 2018 and 2019 which included players like Eoin Cody, Adrian Mullen, Darragh Corcoran, David Blanchfield and Cian Kenny. With the likes of Harry Shine, Joe Fitzpatrick and Killian Doyle among the current crop they will be hopeful of making another final.

As well as the Kieran’s clash, it’s also a big afternoon of school action elsewhere with fellow Kilkenny side Colaiste Mhuire, Johnstown in All-Ireland semi-final action in the Masita GAA Post Primary Schools Paddy Buggy Cup (Senior B Hurling) against Colaiste Bhaile Chlair of Galway at 2pm in Coolderry.

Colaiste Mhuire have a number of Johnstown club players in their ranks. As it happens Fenians GAA will play host to an All-Ireland final earlier in the afternoon when Leinster champions Loreto take on Ursuline Thurles (Tipperary) in the Tesco Post Primary Junior ‘A’ Camogie Final at 1pm.
