Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) had to fight tooth and nail to the finish, but they showed great character when bounced back after a poor opening round display to win thir second ssenior hurling league tie at windy Nowlan Park yesterday, beating Clara by 2-6 to 0-11.
A seventh minute from Jimmy Byrne was the main difference between the teams during the first half when wind assisted Clara trailed by 0-4 to 1-3 at the break.
Six minutes into the second half the scores were level, but after Erin’s Own won back the lead through Eoin Brennan, and then Byrne goaled a second time in the 40th minute, the ’Comer men worked their hearts out for a fine win. The winners finished with 14 men after having a player sent off for a second yellow card offence.
