Ballyhale Shamrocks emerged as deserved winners over Mooncoin following an entertaining minor hurling Roinn A first round encounter in Mullinavat.
Played in ideal conditions on Saturday, the qaction swung to and fro.
This contest’s pivot spun midway through the first half. Having seen Ballyhale Shamrocks run ahead 0-5 to 0-1 on 12 minutes, Mooncoin surged back, reeling off four points on the spin, Ciarán Dillon Dunphy swooping for parity in the 16th minute.
Then, within 60 seconds, Ballyhale goaled twice. First Rónan Corcoran slipped a short free to Patrick Mullen. Using the hard ground as an asset, Mullen netted from 25 metres.
Back came the Shamrocks. Mullen returned the favour, delivering from the right wing to Corcoran, in space on the left. He raised another green flag.
Mooncoin were winded and the same gap endured. Half-time: 2-8 to 0-8.
The leaders grabbed pole position on restart. Darren Mullen, scintillating at wing back, banged over from nigh on 100 metres. Shortly, James Deasy gathered a crossfield ball from Adrian Mullen. He sped through, finding the net with a precise drive.
Now leading 3-9 to 0-8, Ballyhale were unlikely to be overhauled. So it proved.
