Fine Gael General Election Candidate Michael Doyle has welcomed the funding, which he says will be hugely beneficial to members and athletes: “Its fantastic to see a huge variety of clubs in Kilkenny receiving funding and will come as a major boost to members," he said.

“Our local clubs are at the heart of our communities and any help they receive is a great source of support to local teams and sportspeople and a boost for participation in sport.

“This funding will benefit six clubs in Kilkenny.  Active engagement in sports not only helps keep people healthy, but it also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building. It is crucial that we invest in sport for the overall health and wellbeing of our population and that is why this programme is so important.

“I will always advocate strongly for sports clubs and organisations because of the positive impact they have on our community. I thank all of these clubs for the invaluable contributions they make to our community and look forward to seeing the improvements they make with this funding.

“Fine Gael is committed to supporting communities and this funding will go a long way in helping clubs not only in Kilkenny but across Ireland,” concluded Cllr Doyle.
