Kilkenny garda numbers "on the floor" says election candidate

Force "halved" in at least one area of county Kilkenny

Garda numbers in Kilkenny are “on the floor” according to one local councillor and general election candidate in the Carlow/Kilkenny constituency.

Speaking at the recent Callan Thomastown Municipal District meeting, District Chairman Cllr Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere said garda numbers in the county “are probably half what we had this time last year.”

Giving the example of Graignamanagh, Cllr Cleere said there were eight gardaí stationed there a year ago, now there are four. This in a district that takes 45 minutes to drive across.
