Prominent Kilkenny politician has General Election dreams dashed

Independent councillor Eugene McGuinness has failed to secure a Dáil seat in his first attempt with his General Election elimination confirmed after count seven at the Kilkenny Count Centre in Loreto secondary school.

Cllr McGuinness was re-elected as a city councillor in the local elections earlier this year, securing the third-largest amount of first preference votes.

However, it wasn't to be for McGuinness on this occasion with his 2,245 votes not enough.
