Kilkenny golfer makes next step in efforts to secure his playing card for next year

Mark Power

Kilkenny golfer Mark Power took the next step in his efforts to secure his playing card for next year at the second stage of Q-School at Fontanals Golf Club, Girona.

Power had a very steady opening two rounds and, on -1, was in joint 13th place.

A disappointing run in the closing holes of his second round left Mark in joint 30th place and outside the top 22 placings required to progress to the next stage.

However, an excellent three under on Sunday moved him up the rankings and into contention for an automatic place in the next phase.

When the final cards were returned Mark was tied 19th and in a play-off with seven others, for four places.  A birdie on the third extra hole, secured his place in the top 22.

Next up is the final stage of the Tour School at Infinitum Golf, Tarragona, Spain.

Running from this Friday to Wednesday, November 15, 156 contestants will be in the field, with the top 70 and ties progressing to the final 36 holes.

The top 25 and ties on Wednesday will receive their tour card.
