Kilkenny is set to be showcased on television screens around the world with filming on a drama series starting this Monday.

The Inheritance, a Channel Five/Peer Pressure production will be filmed in Kilkenny over the next five weeks, with an additional week of filming scheduled to take place in Inistioge.

Around 100 cast and crew members will be staying in Kilkenny for the duration of the shoot, providing a major boost to the economy especially the hospitality sector.

The drama is produced by Richard Cook, who is well known locally as the founder of The Cat Laughs Festival and Subtitle and was also involved in the setting up of Kilkenomics, the world’s first economy and comedy festival.

Mr Cook describes The Inheritance as ‘having elements of both suspense and mystery’ and centres around the death of a father who dies unexpectedly with a seemingly close family. The money and house is not left to his family, but to a third party, who is not known to the family. The series is co-produced by Angela Squire and Lesley Douglas.

The cast is expected to be announced later this week and boasts some well known Irish and English film and TV actors. The story although filmed in Kilkenny is set in a fictious North of England market town.

The filming crew are also looking for volunteers to get involved in the four-part series.

They need people of all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds to take part as extras.

Interested parties need to be available during the day from Monday to Friday and should be aware that if booked for a day’s filming, extras need to stay for the full day. If you’re under 18, you will need an adult to come with you and stay with you on the day.

All the locations in Kilkenny City are located within a five or ten minute radius.
