CEO of Glanbia Nutritionals Brian Phelan has presented Kilkenny senior camogie player Grace Walsh with a cheque for €5,000 in sponsorship for the GAA’s recent trip to Kenya as part of the ‘Plant the Planet Games Project’.

Glanbia was pleased to support Grace with this worthy project. Grace travelled with 50 players from the Gaelic Players Association, teaming up with former Galway hurler Alan Kerins’, Warriors for Humanity charity, and Self Help Africa as part of a project to plant 1 million trees in Kenyan communities.

The project will empower these communities to sustainably grow their own food and also assist communities to combat the increasing impact of climate change.

Each volunteer raised €10,000, which funded the purchase of the fruit and nut trees and while in Africa, they helped plant the trees every day for 8 days in local communities, supported by local Irish charity Brighter Communities.

Grace, who also plays camogie for her club in Tullaroan, took part in the first ever inter-county  challenge match hosted in Nairobi, Kenya with her hurling, football and camogie team mates.

While in Kenya, they also visited local schools, hospitals and small enterprises where the local people introduced them to the culture and workings of their region.
