Facilitator Roísín Sheehy
A workshop on creative writing in Irish will take place at Butler House in Kilkenny later this month.
The one-day event will be facilitated by Roísín Sheehy and will take place on February 25.
During the workshop participants will respond to creative promts and engage with the senses and imagination.
Myth and contemporary Irish Language poetry will feature as part of the workshop.
Dress for the weather as some of the workshop will be outdoors.
Workshop is suitable for new writers scribbling as Gaeilge as well as published authors.
A reasonable fluency of the language is required.
Roísín Sheehy is from the West Kerry Gaeltacht and now lives in Kilkenny.
She’s a playwright, poet, broadcaster, contemporary dancer and translator.
Róisín was awarded the Patrick Kavanagh Fellowship in 2021. Coiscéim published her debut poetry collection Líomóidí Rúbarb
in April 2021 and Leabhair Comhar published her debut play Snámh na Saoirse. Snámh na Saoirse was awarded a Stewart
Parker Trust award in 2018 and it was produced by An Lab Theatre Company in Dingle and an Taibhdhearc, Amharclann
Naisiúnta na Gaeilge in Galway. Her poems have featured in many journals such as Irish Pages, Poetry Ireland Review,
Southword, Strokestown Anthology and broadcast on Sunday Miscellany, RTÉ, Radió 1.
She was commissioned by Comharchumann Forbartha na nDeise to write a one act play ‘Fresco’ in 2021. Her play An Bhean a
Saolaíodh ar Charraig and the poem Filleann Fianna were awarded Oireachtas awards in 2020. Róisín translated Eachtra Saíd/
La Aventura de Saíd by Josep Lorman from Spanish to Irish which will be published by An Gúm in 2023. She directed and wrote
Fiach Mara, a short film inspired by the true story of Lís na Beannaí Ní Dhálaigh who was born on a rock near the Blaskets. T
Róisín also recently collaborated as a writer and performer in Untold Tales of Freedom in Rothe House directed by Ita Morrissey
and produced by Heritage Tales. Róisín has produced and presented several documentaries with a particular focus on trees, the
environment, women’s health and autonomy. She has a background as a secondary school teacher with Spanish and French.
She has been a guest speaker, poet and dancer on Molscéal, TG4 in 2021 agus Imeal, TG4 in 2016.
The cost is €60 or €45 concession rate and the deadline for bookings is February 15.
Places are limited to 12 participants per course so please book early to avoid disappointment.
