A Kilkenny College past-pupil is set to captain her country this weekend.

Nichola Fryday (Class of 2013) will skipper Ireland in the TikTok Six Nations championship. She will lead the team for the first time on Saturday, getting this year's campaign under way against Wales at the RDS.

Nichola takes over from the recently-retired Ciara Griffin. Since making her Test debut in November 2016 against Canada, she has made 22 appearances.

MORE INTERNATIONAL JOY
It will be a week to cherish on the rugby front for the school, with two current students also in action for their country.

Stephen Smyth, Form 6, will start on the Ireland u-19 team to play Japan this week and will have the additional huge honour of being team captain.  Sean Naughton, Form 6. also made the team and starts on the bench.
