A group of German travel agents and journalists – all specialising in luxury travel – has been exploring Kilkenny on a visit to Ireland’s Ancient East, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

The aim of the visit was to showcase some of the many things to see and do here for high-end German travellers and to highlight some fantastic luxury and culinary experiences.

The group’s action-packed itinerary included an overnight stay at Mount Juliet Estate, as well as a fine dining experience in the Lady Helen restaurant.

“Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite this group of luxury travel agents and journalists to visit Kilkenny and Ireland’s Ancient East, to experience at first-hand some of our luxury tourism offering, including our boutique hotels and resorts – as well as our rich culture and heritage, and not forgetting our superb culinary experiences," said Nadine Lehmann, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Germany.

“Seeing is believing – and our aim is that when they return home, they will be even more enthusiastic about the destination, helping to secure a greater share of their business for Ireland.”

Germany is the third-largest source of visitors to the island of Ireland and one of the largest outbound travel markets in the world. In 2019, 749,000 German visitors came to the island of Ireland.
