Purr-fect Kilkenny cat rescue

Kilkenny kitties carefully collected

Three cats were rescued in Kilkenny on Tuesday, October 10 by the animal welfare organisation, My Lovely Horse Rescue.
Thankfully, there were no feline fatalities on the day due to the speedy reaction of the group.

The charitable organisation is actively involved in the Kilkenny County Council Animal Welfare Charter Committee, which is chaired by Cllr Andrew McGuinness.

Co-founder, Director and volunteer Deborah Kenny said that they got a call from family members of an elderly couple who had passed away regarding their three pet cats.

They made the journey to Kilkenny and caught two of the three cats, but then they got a call regarding a dog with a broken leg in the Kilkenny area.

They brought the poorly pup to a vet in Clonmel, who Deborah described as ‘amazing’ and then went back to try and catch the third ‘very clever little kitten’.

“We were absolutely going to get this cat, whether we had to stay there all night,” she said.

She said that the trick was not to rush and to be very gentle, and that coffee helped with playing the long game.

Deborah revealed she didn’t get home until 10pm that night, and she did so having successfully caught all three cats.

The cats were feral but very soft and gentle with their owners, Deborah described them as ‘a little bit wild but beautiful’.

The cat trio were brought to the vet on Thursday evening and will be brought to their new home the following day.

They normally keep the animals they rescue for a few days before they move to their new home in order to make sure they are okay and so as to not overload them.

While they don’t always have a home ready to go, luckily in this instance they already knew someone who was happy and able to take in cats.

My Lovely Horse Rescue are contactable 24/7, they often get calls from gardai in Kilkenny and Dublin as they have nowhere else to go when it comes to situations like this.

People also reach out directly to the group, whether via mobile or social media.

"My phone is always on," said Deborah.

My Lovely Horse Rescue is always looking for donations in order to keep doing the good work they do and are also looking for people who may be suitable to foster.
