Editorial: Cois Nore's new home a welcome boost for Kilkenny

Kilkenny’s Cancer Support Centre Cois Nore to move to new premises

Cois Nore look set to move to a premises located on the Waterford Road

Local community cancer support charity Cois Nore received a major boost in recent days, with confirmation of a new, bigger premises close to Kilkenny’s Ring Road, providing improved access for all.

They’ve been on the hunt for a new home for a while now, and this might just prove perfect. There’s no doubt, it is a local organisation of which everyone in Kilkenny is immensely proud —and many of us have benefited from the great work they do, and the resources they offer.

Now, the Lilac Lodge on the Waterford Road will transform into a modern accessible cancer support facility providing individual and group meeting rooms, a drop-in centre and more.
Cois Nore’s research has revealed that services being provided now and  into the future require this move to take place. The group has been weighing up its options, and the  Board of Cois Nore have now decided to commit to the purchase of Lilac Lodge, if planning goes ahead. All going well a final grant of permission will issue in four weeks’ time.

When Cois Nore moves  to a centre that can meet all our needs, the community can be confident that all families coping with  a cancer diagnosis will find the support, empowerment and respect they deserve within their own county.
A massive well done to the board of Cois Nore and all involved in supporting this vital local organisation.

SPORTING DELIGHT
It’s hard to believe how quickly October is flying by — we are well into the autumn now.

There were plenty of tears shed for Ireland as they exited the Rugby World Cup in France over the weekend. Thankfully, there is plenty of entertainment closer to home in the days ahead.

Last weekend saw some thrilling local sporting action, with great battles between hurling rivals . Well done to all teams, in particular those who have earned their spot in county finals. Best of luck to all.
